Dr Markle was born in Hanover, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in Poughkeepsie, New York and was awarded a BS in Chemistry by the State University of New York at Albany. After some time as a clinical chemist and a research associate in biochemistry at the Albany Medical College, in Albany New York, she was awarded advanced placement in the medical school and earned her MD degree there. Her four-year residency in obstetrics and gynecology was at the Albany Medical Center Hospital, where she served as chief resident.
